Cézanne
etched this portrait of his friend the painter Guillaumin when they
were both staying with their patron Dr. Gachet in Auvers in 1873.
The study was sketched from life in the street at Auvers with the
house of the 'hanged man' in the distance, hence the sketch in the
upper corner.
